We have a huge issue with the changing needs of our Fire Fighters. "Recruitment & Retention" we live in one of the fastest growing areas of the county. Area first responder stations are being built faster than we can train personal to staff them. Paid and quality of work environment play into recruitment & retention. As a business coach, I know a paid salary is not the single measurement, but it play a huge part. The surrounding metro area has increased first responders pay at a faster rate than Harrisburg, making Harrisburg one of the lower paid departments in the area.
If re-elected, I will work with Staff and Council to address these recruitment and retention issue. If you think waiting for food at your local restaurant is bad? Ponder waiting for first responders to show up for a medical emergency, car wreck or your house is on fire. We must address these changing needs and do it now.
This effects our ISO ratings, our area's ISO fire rating determines how well your local fire department can protect your community and home. Insurance companies use the score to help set home insurance rates, as a home that is less likely to be severely damaged or destroyed by fire is cheaper to insure. Today our area's ISO score is good.. We need to keep it there or make it better.
